There's good news for Tom Cavanaugh -- and bad news for his CBS drama "Love Monkey."

Cavanaugh has been cast as the lead in the Eye's Rich Appel-produced comedy pilot "My Ex-Life," from 20th Century Fox TV. Decision to cast Cavanaugh makes it even less likely the net will pick up "Monkey," which CBS pulled just a few weeks after it premiered.

Before "Monkey," Cavanaugh spent four seasons as the lead in NBC's "Ed."

In other CBS casting news, Jeri Ryan -- most recently seen on "The OC" -- has joined the cast of "Shark," the Spike Lee-helmed drama pilot starring James Woods. Ryan will play a "attractive, ambitious and smart as hell" D.A., according to the show's producers, 20th Century Fox TV and Imagine.

Ryan's past TV credits include "Boston Public" and "Star Trek: Voyager."
