XM beams record deal

Radio satcaster makes first record deal

XM Satellite Radio has made its first record deal, aligning with Concord Music Group to create a series of branded compilations that correspond to XM shows and programs.

The initial series, which will have its first release early this summer, will focus on jazz, with XM and Concord jointly marketing the recordings.

First CD, "Watercolors Series," will highlight songs by contemporary jazz artists featured on XM's contemporary jazz channel, Watercolors. Up second is "Blistering Licks," which will cover the gamut of jazz from blues to progressive rock to straight-ahead jazz.

All CDs in this series will be available at retailers nationwide, major digital music outlets and the Concord Web site.

"When we find a partner who is as focused on the same segments of the market as we are, we definitely find a way of being in business with them," said Gene Rumsey, general manager, Concord Music Group.
