Weinsteins do bunny hop

Zellweger biopic 'Potter' earns interest from TWC

The Weinstein Co. has acquired North American rights to "Miss Potter" -- the Beatrix Potter biopic starring Renee Zellweger, Ewan McGregor and Emily Watson -- from Phoenix Pictures and David Kirschner Prods.

Currently in production in the U.K., pic is being helmed by Chris Noonan. David Kirschner and Corey Sienega are producing, along with Mike Medavoy, Arnie Messer and David Thwaites. Zellweger is exec producing, with Summit Entertainment handling international sales rights.

Michelle Krumm, exec veep of acquisitions and co-productions, brought the film into the TWC fold. Agnes Mentre heads the company's acquisitions initiatives.

Richard Maltby Jr. script explores the life of Potter, author of beloved children's book "The Tale of Peter Rabbit," among others. Pic also follows her struggle to overcome a domineering, unsupportive mother and the chauvinism of Victorian England.

Kirschner Prods. recently produced Universal's "Curious George" with Imagine Entertainment. Phoenix has three pics awaiting release: Marcus Nispel's "Pathfinder" for Fox, David Fincher's "Zodiac" for Paramount and Warner Bros. and Steve Zaillian's "All the King's Men" for Columbia Pictures.
