Hong Kong and Beijing-based production shingle Lotus Entertainment has acquired Chinese-language remake rights to the 1980's Japanese blockbuster "Kamata koshin kyoku" (The Fall Guy).
Based on the successful Japanese stageplay by renowned playwright Tsuka Kohei, who also wrote the screenplay, the original Japanese film was helmed by Kinji Fukasaku and produced by Haruki Kadokawa for Shochiku in 1982. Japanese B.O. topped $25 million.
Lotus, headed by Thomas Leong, in conjunction with regular Korean partner Jonathan Kim as exec producer, will produce on a $5 million budget.
