Costume designer James Echerd died Sat. Jan. 7 in New York following a long illness. He was 45.
Born in Taylorsville, North Carolina, he worked in fashion retail and property management before starting his design career.
A member of the Costume Designers Guild, his credits include "Larry McMurtry's Streets of Laredo," "Sarah Plain and Tall: Skylark," "Silent Tongue," "Fire Next Time," "To Live Again" and "Robin Cook's Virus."
He also worked on several films with director Joyce Chopra, including "Replacing Dad," "My Very Best Friend" and "L.A. Johns." He served as associate producer, costume designer and associate location manager for Del Shores' "Sordid Lives."
He is survived by his mother, a sister, a niece and a nephew.
