Satcaster Star India divides in two

Exec shuffle at Hong Kong-based media company

HONG KONG -- News Corp.'s growing Asian satcaster Star India split its operations in two on Monday, forming Star Group and Star Entertainment.

The reorganization at Star's Hong Kong HQ sees Peter Mukerjea become CEO of Star Group, overseeing legal, finance, government affairs, corporate communications and development of new businesses. He also will manage Star's investments: Tata Sky, Hathway, Balaji and MCCS.

Mukerjea will continue to report to Star Group CEO Michelle Guthrie.

Overseeing Star Entertainment will be Sameer Nair, who was promoted to CEO. Nair will oversee programming, marketing, advertising sales and distribution, as well as keeping an eye on opportunities in new media. He will report to Star chief operating officer Steve Askew, who also becomes Star Entertainment prexy.

Askew will oversee the media and entertainment company's divisions in the region, which include Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, South Korea, the Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, the Mideast and India.
