Levy ankles Nine post

Exec responsible for successes such as 'Kath,' 'Rope'

SYDNEY -- Nine's drama topper Sandra Levy has ankled her post after just five months, but will remain with the network as a consultant.

Levy will be "concentrating on specific drama projects including a soon to be announced major Australian drama series" Nine said in a brief statement on Friday.

The former head of television at pubcaster the ABC, Levy was responsible for successes such as international hit laffer "Kath & Kim," and popular local talkie skein "Enough Rope with Andrew Denton". She left the ABC in September to take up the drama post at Nine.

"Producing has always been my passion and to now focus on projects of particular interest to me represents a wonderful opportunity," said Levy in the statement. "Nine is a dynamic creative environment and I look forward to my continued relationship with [Nine topper] Eddie McGuire ... and the Nine Network."

Although the new series is under wraps it will be good news for Nine's drama content, which is trailing behind the government's required drama spend at present.

Levy's departure comes at a time when Nine is facing a challenge in the ratings from revamped rival Seven Network and is also facing cost cutting, but her move is not believed to be linked to saving money. Instead industryites are speculating she may wish to return to the ABC, but this time in the top job. ABC topper Russell Balding left the post in January and has yet to be replaced.
