Haggis courts 'Enemies'

'Crash' helmer will not serve as scribe on pic

Paul Haggis, who won two Oscars for "Crash," is in final negotiations to direct and produce Columbia Pictures' adaptation of "Against All Enemies," the bestselling book by Richard Clarke, the former White House counterterrorism adviser.

Pic is not necessarily Haggis' next project.

Haggis will not serve as a scribe but will supervise James Vanderbilt ("Basic," "Zodiac"), who was hired to write the project last year.

John Calley, Haggis and Larry Becsey are producing. Len Sherman is exec producing.

Doug Belgrad and Rachel O'Connor oversee for Col.

In the book, Clarke asserts the Bush administration did not sufficiently heed his warnings of a growing threat from Al Qaeda in the months leading up to Sept. 11, 2001, instead focusing obsessively on Iraq, even after the 9/11 attacks.

Haggis also is writing "Casino Royale," the upcoming James Bond pic from MGM/Sony.
