John Lasseter, the top creative exec at Pixar and helmer of the company's upcoming "Cars," will be recognized as a pioneer of animation at this year's ShoWest.
Kudos will be presented to Lasseter at the Las Vegas exhib confab March 14, prior to a screening of "Cars," which Walt Disney will release June 9.
Lasseter has helmed three of Pixar's last six pics, "Toy Story," "A Bug's Life" and "Toy Story 2," and exec produced the other three, "Monsters, Inc.," "Finding Nemo" and "The Incredibles." Lassiter was honored in 1995 by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences for his leadership of the Pixar team on "Toy Story," resulting in the first feature-length computer-animated film. "Finding Nemo" won an Oscar for animated feature in 2003.
