Gold Circle plans 'Daisy' reflowering

Lau-helmed pic will feature 'Sassy' star Jeon

Gold Circle Films is poised to acquire English-language remake rights to Korean pic "Daisy," which preemed last month at Berlin's European Film Market.

Netherlands-set feature, about a love triangle between a street artist, a detective and a gangster, is sold internationally by Korea's iHQ. Helmed by the Hong Kong-based Andrew Lau ("Infernal Affairs") and featuring pan-Asian star Jeon Ji-hyun ("My Sassy Girl"), "Daisy" opens in Korea on Thursday. Gold Circle has shown strong interest in the film from the script stage. The two sides also are finalizing whether to include iHQ as a co-production partner for the remake.

Once completed, contract will be the second remake deal for a Lau film and the fourth for a film starring Jeon.

"Infernal Affairs," co-directed by Lau and Alan Mak, is being remade by Martin Scorsese as "The Departed."

Jeon previously starred in "Il Mare" (remade by Warner Bros. as "The Lake House," starring Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves), "My Sassy Girl" (Gurinder Chadha will direct the DreamWorks redo) and "Windstruck," which was picked up by Warner Bros. Japan.
