FX dishes tabloid 'Dirt'

Cox finds new digs at net

Courteney Cox will topline the FX drama pilot "Dirt," a project she is exec producing with husband David Arquette and scribe Matthew Carnahan ("Fastlane").

Signing marks Cox's first major TV role since "Friends" went off the air. FX, Touchstone Television and Coquette, the production company of Cox and Arquette, will produce.

Cox will play the editor-in-chief of two popular tabloids. Series will revolve around her world as she orchestrates the fates of the celebs who fill the papers' pages.

"Dirt" will also revolve around the tabloids' schizophrenic photographer (Ian Hart) and a struggling actor trying to making a name for himself. Latter role has not yet been cast.

Carnahan will direct the pilot, which begins production next month in Los Angeles.

FX is also considering the drama pilot "Lowlife," starring Eddie Izzard and Minnie Driver as married con artists.

Cox just wrapped production on the Sony/Revolution feature "Zoom," opposite Tim Allen. Her credits include "Scream," "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective" and "3000 Miles to Graceland."
