Nominees for the first Interactive Intl. Emmy Awards will be unveiled today by the Intl. Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.
There are four noms in each of three categories: interactive program, interactive channel and interactive TV service -- and, perhaps because interactivity is highly developed in Britain, the majority of the contenders come from the U.K.
Roger Bart ("Desperate Housewives") will host the inaugural Interactive I-Emmy Awards April 5 during the upcoming Mip TV trade show in Cannes.
The I-Academy will also bestow the first-ever Pioneer Prize in Cannes upon AOL chairman-CEO Jonathan Miller for his innovative contributions to the field of interactive television.
"I am delighted to accept the Pioneer Prize on behalf of the many extraordinary people at AOL," Miller said. "As our coverage of Live 8 showed, the Internet is unmatched when it comes to delivering a big event that entertains, engages and mobilizes a global audience."
The Interactive I-Emmy Awards at the upcoming Mip TV is the first Emmy ceremony ever organized outside of the U.S.
Founded in 1969, the Intl. Academy is the largest organization of global broadcasters, with 500 members from 70 countries.
