Whether Stacey Snider would remain as chair at Universal or lead DreamWorks is the discussion that dominated Hollywood for much of the week.
This much is known: Snider, who returned from London on Thursday night, has already begun talks, through her reps, with Par brass about a deal.
Also waiting is Universal Studios prexy Ron Meyer, who gave Snider permission to talk to other studios after she was unsatisfied with the initial direction of her renewal talks with GE.
He has still not been told what his studio is planning.
Whatever Snider chooses, the situation is expected to be resolved soon, possibly before next week.
Still holding out for the possibility that Snider will choose to stay at U, Meyer has not begun the process of finding a successor.
Meyer himself is said to be generally in favor of internal candidates, and there are several names from within the NBC U family being bandied about. Leading them are current vice chair Marc Shmuger, along with former vice chairs of production Scott Stuber and Mary Parent, Focus co-chief David Linde and USA and Sci Fi cabler topper Bonnie Hammer.
Producers based on Universal's lot have largely been rooting for Snider to remain, but as her departure becomes more likely, they have been throwing what weight they have behind execs already within the studio in hopes that familiar faces will remain at the top.
