Bosnak will adapt her novel, which Harper-Collins will publish in July. Story centers on a woman who, having hit her sexual limit at 20 men, decides to track down the other 19 guys in hopes that she's overlooked one who could be "the one."
Bosnak told Daily Variety the book's premise originated during a phone conversation with a close friend, who admitted she'd been using the Internet to look up a pair of long-lost loves. "We'd been trying to figure out whatever happened to the two Mikes and I realized that I wasn't the only one doing this," she added.
For Bosnak, writing the novel represented a way to move past the notoriety she gained from her 2002 launch of Savekaryn.com. She used the Web site to solicit donations to get her out of the hole created by her uninhibited use of credit cards. Bosnak not only paid off her creditors but also sold 100,000 copies of her book ("Save Karyn: One Shopaholic's Journey to Debt and Back") and wrote a screenplay for Escape Artists, where the project remains in development.
Contrafilm exec Gitty Deneshavri brought "20 Times a Lady" into the shingle. New Line president Toby Emmerich and execs Mark Kaufman, Kathy Busby and Daryl Friemark oversee the project.
"Karyn Bosnak captures the complexity of a modern woman's sex life with humor, originality and wit in a manner that we haven't seen before," Flynn said.
New Line-based Contrafilm is producing thriller "The Number 23," starring Jim Carrey and Virginia Madsen.
