Broadway grosses
That's a stronger-than-usual cume for the frame, and not a bad tally for a normally sluggish time of year.
David Lindsay-Abaire's new play "Rabbit Hole" ($278,746) saw one of the largest bumps, up more than $75,000 from the previous sesh thanks to the handful of critical raves.
Another new offering, the Roundabout's revival of "The Pajama Game" ($404,834), continues to post solid sales in previews, fueled by promising buzz and playing to 92.9% of capacity -- behind only top earner "Wicked" ($1,315,139) and the sold-out limited run of "The Odd Couple" ($857,186), both at around 100%.
In the top three, "The Lion King" ($986,094) clawed its way past "Monty Python's Spamalot" ($932,351) to retake second place.
On the other end of the spectrum, "Barefoot in the Park" ($230,480 for seven perfs) hopes to gain momentum as it goes into its opening week, and the Johnny Cash tuner "Ring of Fire" ($247,258) played its first eight perfs.
"Chita Rivera: The Dancer's Life" languished at $162,025 for six perfs. Low sales helped prod the announcement that the show, like "The Woman in White" ($418,639), would close Feb. 19.
The 21 musicals grossed $12,022,250 for 86.5% of the Broadway total, with attendance of 164,296 for 75.2% capacity.
The five plays grossed $1,873,959 for 13.5% of the Broadway total, with attendance of 25,831 at 74.4% capacity.
Average paid admission was $73.17 for musicals, $72.55 for plays and $73.09 for all shows.
