Scott Steindorff is producing through his Stone Village banner, with Mike Newell directing and "The Pianist" scribe Ron Harwood adapting the tale of a man in romantic pursuit of a woman over five decades.
New Line president Toby Emmerich and exec VP Mark Ordesky oversee for the studio, which acquired the project in late 2004. Stone Village's Scott LaStaiti and Brantley Dunaway are co-producing.
Bardem stars opposite Natalie Portman in Milos Forman's "Goya's Ghosts" for Spain's Xuxa Producciones.
Steindorff exec produced HBO miniseries "Empire Falls." He recently obtained rights to the A.M. Homes novel "This Book Will Save Your Life," and he's producing "Penelope."
