M. Night Shyamalan has been named ShoWest's director of the year. Helmer of the upcoming summer thriller "Lady in the Water" will accept the award at the Las Vegas exhib confab on March 16 during its closing banquet.
Shyamalan has been one of the most outspoken filmmakers on behalf of the National Assn. of Theater Owners in favor of preserving the theatrical window.
Warner Bros. is skedded to bow "Lady," which stars Paul Giamatti, on July 21. Shyamalan's previous pics include "The Village," "Signs," "Unbreakable" and "The Sixth Sense."
