Fox News Channel's exclusive interview with Vice President Dick Cheney gave "Special Report With Brit Hume" its highest rating of 2006.

Interview at 6 p.m. Wednesday, promoted throughout the day on Fox News, drew 2.1 million viewers -- a 36% increase from Hume's February average of 1.55 million viewers.

Veep passed over all three broadcast news orgs, as well as CNN and MSNBC, in choosing Hume to discuss the accidental shooting that wounded a fellow hunter.

Hume scored 513,000 viewers in the 25-54 demographic, according to Nielsen Media Research, up 43% from his normal rating in the demo.

During the same hour, CNN's "Lou Dobbs Tonight" had 797,000 total viewers, a 29% increase from his January average of 616,000 viewers.

Some of Dobbs' gains may have come at the expense of CNN's Headline News, which barely registered with 65,000 viewers during the hour.
