Moresco and Paul Haggis have been nominated for an Oscar in the original screenplay category for "Crash" and the duo won the Writers Guild Award earlier this month. Moresco co-produced "Million Dollar Baby" and recently wrote and directed "10th and Wolf," starring Val Kilmer, Giovanni Ribisi and James Marsden.
"Heat" revolves around a 12-year-old Cuban immigrant who's a baseball prodigy living without his parents and with his 17-year-old brother in the shadows of Yankee Stadium. The boy dreams of playing in the Little League World Series until a rival accuses him being older than the league limit.
"Heat" will be published by Philomel, an imprint of Penguin Young Readers Group, in the spring.
Oh Really Prods. has a first-look deal with Walden and "Heat" is the first project to be developed under that deal. David Kaufmann and Jared Mass oversee for Walden, reporting to exec VP of production Alex Schwartz.
Walden produced "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" with Disney. It also produced "Hoot" and "How to Eat Fried Worms" for New Line and is partnered with Paramount and Nickelodeon on "Charlotte's Web."
