Novel will be published by Viking in April.
Homes' book has been creating buzz since Stephen King read a galley and touted the book in the column he writes for Entertainment Weekly. Steindorff paid mid-six figures against seven figures.
The novel is about a wealthy day trader who is so insulated in his Hollywood Hills home that when he gets rushed to the hospital with heart- attack symptoms that turn out to be a panic attack, he has no loved one to call. Steindorff made the deal while he was on location in London on "Penelope," which Stone Village is financing, and he is producing with Type A partners Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Simpson. Steindorff said he'll secure a writer and will finance development.
It is the fourth screen deal for Homes, whose "The Safety of Objects" became a Rose Troche-directed film, and "Music for Torching" is being adapted by Buck Henry for "Secretary" director Steven Shainberg.
