AFTRA has a deal on the 'Table'

Fox's first telenovela gets unionized

HOLLYWOOD -- The American Federation of Television & Radio Artists has announced it has unionized "Table for Three," a TV series produced for Fox syndication.

AFTRA negotiators reached the pact with Gone Fission Inc., producers of the 13-week, 65-episode serial -- the first of the English-language "telenovelas" that are part of the "Desire" time block for Fox.

AFTRA said that after the pilot was produced non-union, it launched discussions with producers and urged union performers and franchised agents to submit with the condition that talent would be available only if an AFTRA contract was in place.

Since the San Diego-based show is shot on digital, it's been uncertain whether the Screen Actors Guild or AFTRA would have jurisdiction since that area hasn't been defined. AFTRA noted in the announcement that SAG and Actors' Equity offered support in its effort to ensure "Table" was produced under a union contract.
