'Particle' charged at shindig
'Elementary,' my dear

The blowout party for "The Elementary Particles" got off to a auspicious start as guests crowded into an elevator for the China Club on the 6th floor of the Adlon Hotel.

"It's a bit like a swingers club but I guess not enough room to maneuver," quipped a knowing German producer as he squeezed into the lift.

Inside the club, the scenario was pretty much the same:  The pic's cast Moritz Bleibtreu (first utterance: "So where can I get a drink around here?!"), Christian Ulmen, Franka Potente, Uwe Ochsenknecht and helmer Oskar Roehler were tightly ringed by throngs of Teuton bizzers including X-Filme topper Stefan Arndt, financier David Groenewold, helmers Fatih Akin and Oliver Hirschbiegel.

An ebullient Bernd Eichinger seemed blissed-out when asked about the post-production on "Perfume," but admitted that there had been tricky moments during the editing of "Particles" and that he'd made changes at the very last minute.

Nevertheless, both Berlin mayor Klaus Wowereit and Axel Springer topper Mathias Doepfner agreed that their verdict on Eichinger's latest production effort was "very positive."

Arndt also liked the "Particles" pic, but said he had reservations about Eichinger's just revealed plans to produce "Der Baader Meinhof Komplex." "It's really difficult subject matter and I'm kind of scared to see that film," he opined.

Meanwhile, "Downfall" director Oliver Hirschbiegel, fresh off the set of the Nicole Kidman starrer "The Visiting," says making movies in Hollywood is just like making movies in Germany: "There's never enough time and never enough money."

At the party, though, time and money seemed irrelevant as folks toasted one another into the wee hours.
