Cabler has ordered 13 new half-hour episodes, which go into production in spring for an October debut.
Drama concerns the transition of a family from small town Ohio to life in Los Angeles while delving into themes of sexual and racial identity and self-discovery. Skein was recently feted with a GLAAD Media Award nom for drama.
"South" has been "a perfect fit" behind cabler's top-rated series, "Degrassi," said Nickelodeon TV exec VP-general manager Tom Ascheim, who was elevated Thursday from G.M. of the N.
"We're very proud of the show and the way it deals with identity and its teen characters," exec said. "It's the No. 2 show on the network," he added.
"The N really embodies authentic TV for teens -- their issues and their angst, their language, their humor," Lynch said. "That's certainly what 'South of Nowhere' is about, and it's why the N's viewers embraced this show with such fervor."
First season concluded Feb. 3.
The N, available in 45 million homes, has invested heavily in original programming over the last year and a half. Other scripted originals skedded to hit the digital cabler this year include "The Block," "Makaha Surf" and "Whistler."
Lynch is behind Nickelodeon shows "Romeo!" and "Caitlin's Way."
