"Good, family-supporting, well-paying jobs top the list that Phil Angelides has for the state of California," said IATSE president Tom Short. "He envisions a California with even more jobs in the entertainment industry, first class schools, affordable health care for working families, and protections for our environment. The welfare of all Californians is his only special interest."
IATSE reps about 40,000 employees in California. Angelides will face state Controller Steve Westly in the Democratic primary in June.
IATSE issued the endorsement Wednesday at its general executive board meeting in Palm Harbor, Fla. The union cited Angelides' efforts to oppose Proposition 75 last fall along with his support of tax incentives to counter runaway production.
Field Poll results from last fall showed Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger trailing Angelides by 11 percentage points and Westly by 9 points.
