NICOLE KIDMAN and 20th Century Fox have optioned the novel "The Bachelorette Party" by Karen McCullah Lutz. Nicole intends to produce and probably star in this tale of love, almost marriage, engagement parties and keeping secrets.

The book's author, Ms. Lutz, is also sponsoring a contest--she's inviting ladies to contribute their wildest bachelorette moments in 500 words or less. She'll choose the winner, who will get a weekend at Peter Morton's Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. If you are brave enough to get in on this, click on to www.bachelorettepartycontest.com. May the wickedest woman win!

THERE'S NO end to the great stuff coming out on DVD! A sparkling new edition of "Breakfast At Tiffany's" in which Audrey Hepburn manages to survive the sweetening of Truman Capote's original tale of a Manhattan hooker, and the absurd casting of Mickey Rooney as a Japanese neighbor...The fourth season of "Dallas" (ah, the good old days of nighttime soaps, when great women like Linda Gray could do so much with a line like, "Joan of Arc would have been a drunk if she'd been married to you.")...Angie Dickinson's "Police Woman" -- the first season. What a woman, what a cop, what a wardrobe!...And here's a double-dose of brilliance. To accompany a new CD "Blondie: Greatest Hits, Sound and Vision" there's a DVD with 16 videos -- 1977 to '82. This hot package arrives in stores March 7, one week before the band is inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Blondie's lead singer, Debbie Harry, was the original platinum-haired pop goddess. She once quipped, "Madonna says I influenced her a lot. That's nice. But a check would be nicer."

WHEREVER one goes with Dominick Dunne, people approach him as they did the Bourbon kings. I've been with him in the checkout line at Old Saybrook's Stop 'n' Shop and have seen a woman sidle up and hand him a slip of paper, whispering, "Call me; this is a case you should check out!" And the same thing happens at all the best cocktail parties and dinners. He is a hit again on Court TV's signature show, which is back for a fourth season. Coming Monday, we'll get the Claudine Longet/Spider Sabitch story right off the slopes of Aspen. Dominick's take on the Rozanne Gailiunas murder in Texas happens Feb. 20. Everything is grist for his mill. His boss, Henry Schleiff, is ecstatic about the success of this series. "We have improved because of our storytelling in these areas of crime and the law and all the various issues we cover," he says . "We realized that covering the foundations of trials during the day was not enough.! Dominick is our key because he gives us the perfect combination. The public knows he is an expert."

DIAHANN CARROLL, who first hit the heights on Broadway in "No Strings," will come back to New York with loads of lovely love and make her cabaret debut at Feinstein's at the Regency on April 18. Carroll is in rehearsal now with Larry Grossman. She will be dressed from glittering top to toe by Bob Mackie, who never saw a bugle bead he didn't use ... Danny Aiello, jazz singer! Yup, the famous actor, now filming "Stiffs" in Boston with Lesley Ann Warren, has recorded a CD, "I Just Wanted to Hear the Words." And in his time away from making "Stiffs," he moonlights at Sculler's, Boston's jazz spot. Aiello, known to a generation of MTV fans as Madonna's anguished but loving dad in the "Papa Don't Preach" video, is 72 years young.

SO, AFTER one is questioned by the police in gray and chilly London, on the matter of one's drug use, where does one go to recover? If you are beleaguered supermodel Kate Moss, you flee to the Delano Hotel in Florida's South Beach, with your mother and your daughter. Moss is actually there on a photo shoot, no real "fleeing" involved. But Moss' current high profile leads to dramatic overstatement ... Speaking of drama, I love the latest little Lindsay Lohan incident -- she cut her leg on a teacup she dropped while breakfasting with friends at the home of Canadian rocker Bryan Adams. She was wet from the shower and "had some lotion on" making her progress slippery. This is according to Dina Lohan, the ever-present manager-mom. Stitches were required. Is this a great story, or what? Miss Lohan's got flair, I must say.
