DreamWorks finds gem in 'Opal' tome

'Kissed' puckers up for bigscreen adaptation

DreamWorks has acquired the novel "How Opal Mehta Got Kissed, Got Wild and Got a Life," with Contrafilm and Alloy Entertainment onboard to produce.

Tome, to be published in April by Little, Brown, was penned by Kavvya Viswanathan. Actress-turned-scribe Kara Holden will adapt.

Story follows the title character, whose life has been driven by one goal: being admitted to Harvard. But when her admissions interview goes south and her future seems to be slipping, Opal is forced to re-examine her choices.

Contrafilm principals Beau Flynn and Tripp Vinson will produce along with Alloy's Les Morgenstein and Bob Levy. Gitty Daneshvari and Flynn are overseeing at Contrafilm. At DreamWorks, execs David Beaubaire and Ashley Brucks are shepherding.

Flynn and Vinson's last producing effort to hit the bigscreen was the horror hit "The Exorcism of Emily Rose." Alloy, which has developed a slew of teen book series, last saw "Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants" to the screen. Alloy developed "Opal."
