Weinsteins mad for 'Igor'

Brothers strike toon with monster movie

The Weinstein Co. is continuing its animation run by picking up North American rights to Exodus Film Group's upcoming CG-animated comedy "Igor."

TWC is in current release with the irreverent fairy-tale take "Hoodwinked!," which has taken in more than $38 million to date domestically.

Penned by Chris McKenna, "Igor" is a twist on the monster genre, following a mad scientist's hunchbacked lab assistant who has big dreams of winning the Evil Science Fair.

Pic will expand on Exodus' upcoming animated short "Igor: Unholy Frijoles." The short features such voice talent as Christian Slater in the lead role, with Jay Leno, Steve Buscemi and John Cleese supporting.

No cast or helmer is set for the feature-length "Igor" pic, which is in pre-production.

Exodus prexy John Eraklis will produce "Igor," with Max Howard exec producing.

TWC's Eric Robinson will oversee for company co-heads Bob and Harvey Weinstein.

TWC has a number of other animated projects in its pipeline, including "Doogal," "Opus," "The Cricket in Times Square" and a new installment in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise.

Unit also recently unveiled plans for a "Hoodwinked!" sequel, dubbed "Hood vs. Evil," to be produced with Kanbar Entertainment.

Exodus' upcoming slate also includes "The Hero of Color City" and "Amarillo Armadillo."
