Fox gung ho on sumo pic

'Wedding' pair wed to laffer

Fox has tapped "Wedding Crashers" scribes Steve Faber and Bob Fisher to pen a comedy about a skinny American competing as a sumo wrestler.

Project is being developed as a starring vehicle for Jon Heder ("Napoleon Dynamite"), with Jimmy Miller producing at Mosaic Media Group.

Story's based on a Joshua Davis' GQ report ("Supersize Me: The Hard-Won Wisdom of a 134-Pound Sumo Warrior") about becoming the lightest man ever to compete at the U.S. Sumo Open two years ago. Davis included that episode along with excursions into bullfighting, arm wrestling, backward running and sauna in his book "The Underdog: How I Survived the World's Most Outlandish Competitions."

Debbie Liebling is overseeing the sumo project for the studio.

Faber and Fisher also scripted "We're the Millers," a New Line comedy about a marijuana dealer trying to get out of the business.
