'Grudge' rematch

Tamblyn to star in Col horror sequel

Amber Tamblyn will star in "The Grudge 2," the sequel to Columbia Pictures' horror hit.

Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert's Ghost House Pictures is reteaming with Mandate to produce.

Also back are writer Stephen Susco and helmer Takashi Shimizu, who directed the Japanese original and the first U.S. film, which starred Sarah Michelle Gellar.

Gellar will make a brief appearance in the sequel, playing the older sister of Tamblyn's character.

Tamblyn's emergence for the role was sudden, occurring after studio brass watched her work in "Stephanie Daley," a Tilda Swinton-produced drama in which Tamblyn plays a teen who is accused of murdering her newborn. That film makes its premiere this week at the Sundance Film Festival, and Tamblyn is there to promote it. Her reps were expected to have a deal in place by Wednesday.

Shooting will begin in Tokyo next month. Columbia's Shannon Gaulding will oversee the project along with Matt Tolmach.

Tamblyn, the 22-year-old daughter of "West Side Story" star Russ Tamblyn, last starred in the CBS series "Joan of Arcadia" and the feature "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants." She played a supporting role in "The Ring."
