Brillstein-Grey prez exits

BGE's Safran hangs shingle

Brillstein-Grey Entertainment prexy Peter Safran is exiting the management-production company to launch independent shingle the Safran Co. Move follows an eight-year run for Safran at BGE, the last three as prexy of the management arm.

He is expected to take his entire client list with him to the new outfit, including actors Sean "Diddy" Combs, Djimon Hounsou, David Hyde Pierce, Ving Rhames, Paul Reiser, Ray Winstone, Brooke Shields, David Schwimmer and Nia Vardalos.

He's also taking writer James Gunn ("Dawn of the Dead"), writer-directors Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer ("Date Movie"), writer-producer Craig Mazin ("Scary Movie 3"), writer-director Fred Wolf ("Black Sheep") and writer Jeff Lowell ("John Tucker").

Safran's exit is the latest in a string of changes at the company since Brad Grey left to become chairman-CEO of Paramount Pictures. Cynthia Pett-Dante and Jon Liebman were upped to co-prexies of the company in August and, prior to that, BGE had hired Firm defectees Aleen Keshishian, JoAnne Colonna and Mary Putnam Greene.

Before joining BGE, Safran was a manager at Gold-Miller, now Mosaic Media Group. During his tenure there, he worked with clients including Jennifer Lopez, Hyde Pierce and Harland Williams. Safran started his career as a corporate attorney in New York City before becoming an assistant at UTA. He became a manager under Eric Gold and Jimmy Miller.
