Full 'Moons' for ABC Family

Alphabet net hits high with original dramas

ABC Family has picked up "Three Moons Over Milford" to series -- a move that gives the network more original dramas than any other basic cabler.

"Three Moons" centers on the residents of a small town about to be a destroyed -- with the rest of the Earth -- by a cosmic explosion.

Skein comes from Touchstone TV and exec producers Holly Goldberg Sloan ("The Secret Life of Girls") and Gary Rosen ("Hacks"). Jon Amiel ("Eyes") will consult. Howard Chesley and Jon Boorstin, who wrote the pilot, will co-exec produce the series.

Show will follow the members of the Montgomery family, who take what they believe to be their last moments to the extreme: Dad leaves to climb the world's seven largest peaks, daughter Lydia takes up witchcraft to help save Earth, while son Alex gets involved with an older neighbor.

Eight-episode order is the fifth scripted skein bought by ABC Family while under prexy Paul Lee, who has made the net one of the most prolific producers of original drama on cable. His efforts continue to pay off: Last Monday's second-season premiere of "Wildfire" drew 2.3 million viewers, ABC Family's largest premiere aud to date. A premiere date for "Three Moons" has not yet been set.

Other dramas on the docket include a second season of "Beautiful People" and new shows "Balancing Act," about a cop who moves his family back to the inner city, and "Kyle XY," about a family that adopts a mysterious but naive teen.
