Spanish thesp to play love interest in 'William'

Spanish thesp Elena Anaya ("Van Helsing") will play the love interest in "Miguel and William," Ines Paris' fictional account of a friendship between William Shakespeare and "Don Quixote" author Miguel de Cervantes.

The latest in a line of higher-tab historical pics from Spain, "Miguel" stars Anaya's fellow "Van Helsing" actor-dancer Will Kemp ("Mindhunters") as Shakespeare, Juan Luis Galiardo ("The Girl of Your Dreams") as Cervantes and Geraldine Chaplin.

To roll in late February, pic is produced by Antonio Saura's Madrid-based Zebra Prods. and co-produced by Warner Bros., U.K. Future Films and Galiardo's own label, Miguel y William. Pic is supported by the 400th Quixote Anniversary Foundation.

"The film is a romantic comedy that speculates about what happened to a young Shakespeare during the four years when he disappears from historical records," Saura told Daily Variety.
