The American Cinematheque will offer online ticketing at its two classic movie palaces -- the Egyptian in Hollywood and the Aero in Santa Monica -- via a partnership with Fandango.
Both theaters show older films that, while typically limited in appeal, draw devoted cinephiles who can line up for hours for popular screenings, especially when those unspoolings are part of a special event with panel discussions or other activities.
Internet ticketing should help limit lines and staff costs for the exhib by allowing moviegoers to buy tickets in advance.
Fandango is one of two major online ticketing services along with MovieTickets.com, which now services industry pioneer Moviefone. Both charge an extra $1 per ticket.
Netco also has upped operations VP Rick Butler to the newly created position of chief information officer. He'll be in charge of technology, operations and exhibitor relations, reporting to CEO Art Levitt.
