A new controller of Sky One has yet to be appointed, but whoever lands the gig will find it a challenging role.
Once Blighty's most popular non-terrestrial station, Sky One has been hit hard by growing competition from digital terrestrial service Freeview.Recently ITV2, also aimed at the under-35s and with a high quotient of U.S. fare, claimed a bigger audience share than Sky One.
Latest figures show ITV2 widening the gap -- a 2.4% audience share compared with Sky One's 1.7%.
Baker, who became head of Sky One in October 2003, begins his new job in January.
