Rotterdam sets world preems

World Briefs

Holland's biggest film event, the Intl. Film Festival Rotterdam, has selected six of the 14 pics competing in its VPRO Tiger Awards.

Four are world preems: Dutch lenser David Lammers' "Northern Light"; Chinese helmer Han Jie's "Walking on the Wild Side"; Uruguayan director Manuel Nieto Zas' "The Dog Pound"; and Spanish lenser Isaki Lacuesta's "The Legend of Time."

The remaining two are international preems: "Ode to Joy," the first of three films by young Polish filmmakers Anna Kazejak-Dawid, Jan Komasa and Maciej Migas; and "Song of Songs," the feature film debut by U.K. helmer Josh Appignanesi.

Fest kicks off a 12-day run on Jan. 25, with the top three winners taking home E10,000 ($12,000).
