The winner will record for one of RLG's three labels -- Arista Nashville, BNA or RCA Records. RCA also will have right of first refusal to sign the other nine finalists.
"Nashville Star" winners have included Buddy Jewell, Eriko Jo and Brad Cotter; runner-up Miranda Lambert had a breakthrough year in '05. For the first two seasons, Sony Music inked the acts; Universal South had the rights to last year's finalists. All of the acts have seen sales top 500,000.
"They make No. 1 hits," said "Nashville Star" exec producer H.T. Owens, who negotiated the deal with RCA's Joe Galante. "They have a very strong relationship with country radio and can cultivate (the winner's repertoire) so that it translates for country radio."
Acts on RCA's roster will be appearing regularly during opening segments of the show, which now will debut March 14 instead of the previously announced March 7.
Wynonna Judd and Cowboy Troy will host, while singer-songwriter Phi Vassar and exec Anastasia Brown return as judges, joined by a different celebrity guest each week.
Execs from "Nashville Star" and the RCA Label Group have already conducted 18 of their 20 talent contests; the final 10 will be decided on or about Jan. 11.
The RCA Label Group is home to Kenny Chesney, Alan Jackson, Brooks & Dunn, Martina McBride, Lonestar, Sara Evans, Diamond Rio and Brad Paisley. "Nashville Star" was created by Reveille.
