Oz's Arclight scouting up a 'Storm'

Shingle wants to ramp up acquisition of Aussie pics

Gary Hamilton's international sales shingle Arclight has appointed Dean O'Flaherty to scout for Aussie films out of Melbourne.

Division's first find is "Storm Warning," a A$4.2 million ($3.15 million) horror pic about a couple stranded in a mangrove swamp to be directed by Jamie Blanks.

O'Flaherty told Daily Variety that following the company's success with "Wolf Creek," which was acquired by the Weinstein Co. and has reaped an impressive $4.2 million at the Oz B.O., Arclight and its affiliated genre shingle Darclight want to ramp up the acquisition of Aussie pics.

"There's some stunning stuff around. We're looking at two to three films a year," he said.

Other Oz titles on Arclight's slate are Richard Roxburgh's "Romulus, My Father," starring Eric Bana; director Alister Grierson's "Kokoda"; and Geoffrey Wright's reworking of "Macbeth."
