ASC spotlights Pollack

Helmer honored with Board of Governors Award

The American Society of Cinematographers has selected Sydney Pollack to receive its Board of Governors Award, presented annually to an individual who has made "significant and enduring contributions to advancing the art of filmmaking."

Pollack will be honored during the 20th annual ASC Outstanding Achievement Awards ceremony Feb. 26 at the Century Plaza Hotel.

He won Academy Awards for directing and producing "Out of Africa" and received nominations for directing "They Shoot Horses, Don't They?" and "Tootsie." He is a founding member of the Sundance Institute and the Film Foundation and chairman emeritus of American Cinematheque. He is also on the board of directors for the Motion Picture and Television Fund.         

Pollack has produced more than 40 films.Previous recipients of the ASC award include Gregory Peck, Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese, Jodie Foster and Robert Wise.
