"Brokeback Mountain" staked an early place on year-end critics' lists, leading the Broadcast Film Critics Assn. nominations with eight nominations, including picture, director, actor, supporting actor, composer, writer and song.
"Crash" drew six noms: picture, director, acting ensemble, writer and supporting actor mentions for both Matt Dillon and Terrence Howard. Howard also received two other noms, actor and song for "Hustle & Flow."
The BFCA will honor George Clooney with the Freedom Award for his film "Good Night, and Good Luck." Prize pays tribute to actors who share values of freedom, tolerance and democracy in their work. Clooney is ©©also recognized with Critics' Choice nods for supporting actor for "Syriana" and director and co-writer for "Good Night, and Good Luck."
Dennis Miller will host the Critics' Choice Awards gala Jan. 9 at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium, and the WB will telecast the ceremony live at 8 p.m. ET.
