Companies from Singapore and Indonesia pacted on co-productions totaling $1.2 million at the event, held at the Shangri La Hotel, Singapore, from Nov. 30 to Dec. 2.
MDA, along with Singapore production company I Media Entertainment and Upside Down Concepts, are to partner with Indonesia's Maxima Entertainment on 13 telepics, called telesinema locally, including "Lost in Singapore," which will air on Indonesia's Lativi TV early in January.
MDA also pacted with Upside Down Concepts and Indonesian partner Dialogue for 13-part comedy "Alya," to air on Jakarta-based Jak TV in February.
Both ventures are eying further sales in Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia and Brunei.
MDA, Asian Food Channel and other partners will invest $2 million in programming for Asia over the next two years.
Singapore-based AFC, the region's first 24-hour food paybox, plans two original shows -- 13-episode travelogue "Art of Entertaining Asian Style" and half-hour series "Modern Cooks and Heritage Food."
With MDA support, new content management company 6-6-8 will be headquartered in Singapore. Capitalized at $9 million, 6-6-8 is a partnership between former Peppermint exec Michael Knobloch and Singapore independent media company Mega Media.
It has 20,000 hours of TV content in its library. Germany's Bavaria Media and EM.TV plus Italy's RAI Trade have announced partnerships with 6-6-8.
Meanwhile, MDA is backing Discovery Networks Asia and Singapore production company the Right Angle Media in reversioning Asian-made documentaries for consumption in other countries.
A film cooperation agreement between the MDA and the Korean Film Council was inked Dec 1.
MDA aims to get Singapore's media industry to double its contribution to the country's gross domestic product to 3% and to increase employment in the sector from 38,000 to 50,000 jobs by 2012.
