Broadway grosses
That's the highest-grossing Turkey Day week ever on Broadway, and the third highest tally for any week.
A handful of shows broke house records, most notably top earner "Wicked," which cracked the $1.5 million mark at $1,521,159. The week's capacity crowd ponied up an impressively high average ticket price of $105.11.
"Jersey Boys" ($802,858) and "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee" ($501,130) also set new house records, while "Mamma Mia!" ($1,082,934) posted its best Thanksgiving tally in four years on the boards.
"Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" ($925,721) jumped a huge $468,418 from the previous sesh, while "The Lion King" ($1,414,201) and "Beauty and the Beast" ($839,636) rose more than $300,000 each. "The Phantom of the Opera" ($924,689) and "Fiddler on the Roof" ($695,591) climbed more than $250,000.
Spurred by the release of the movie version, "Rent" also pulled in big numbers, taking in $683,252 and playing to 98.6% capacity.
Heading into its opening week, "The Color Purple" ($764,868) stepped up by $173,968, and "Chita Rivera: The Dancer's Life" took in $250,614 for its first seven perfs.
Still, not all productions felt the holiday love, with "In My Life" ($124,904), "Seascape" ($104,624), "Latinologues" ($88,424) and "Souvenir" ($71,525) among those left out of the sales binge.
The 24 musicals grossed $18,520,625 for 89.0% of the Broadway total, with attendance of 225,712 at 85.7% of capacity.
The eight plays grossed $2,291,641 for 11.0% of the Broadway total, with attendance of 34,236 at 66.6% of capacity.
Average paid admission was $82.05 for musicals, $66.94 for plays and $80.06 for all shows.
