Stars aligned for 'Venus'

Redgrave, Phillips, Griffiths join laffer

Vanessa Redgrave, Leslie Phillips and Richard Griffiths have joined the cast of Roger Michell's London-set comedy "Venus."

Phillips ("Out of Africa") and Peter O'Toole play seasoned if unsuccessful thesps in their 70s who are forced to re-evaluate their lives after the introduction of an inquisitive young woman, played by newcomer Jodie Whittaker.

The eight-week "Venus" shoot kicked off today in and around London and at Ealing Studios.

"Notting Hill" helmer Michell reteams with scribe Hanif Kureishi and producer Kevin Loader on the FilmFour/Miramax project. The trio first worked together on TV series "The Buddha of Suburbia" before collaborating on Daniel Craig starrer "The Mother."

"Venus" is a Free Range Films production for FilmFour, the U.K. Film Council's Premiere Fund and Miramax Films. Miramax will distribute the film in North America, with Buena Vista distribbing in the U.K. The Works is handling international sales.
