'Because' wanting Moore

Thesp to play Keaton's daughter in 'Said So'

Mandy Moore has signed on to star as Diane Keaton's daughter in Gold Circle Films' "Because I Said So" for helmer Michael Lehmann. Universal Pictures has also closed a deal with Gold Circle to distribute domestically.

Penned by Karen Leigh Hopkins and Jessie Nelson, pic will star Keaton as a meddling mother who, in order to prevent her youngest daughter (Moore) from following in her footsteps, attempts to set her up with the right man.

Shooting begins late this month.

Gold Circle prexy Paul Brooks is producing with Jessie Nelson. Gold Circle's Norm Waitt and Scott Niemeyer take exec producer credits. Mandate Pictures will handle international sales.

Moore next toplines Paul Weitz's "American Dreamz," also for Universal. The actress returns to her songbird roots in 2006 with the release of another album, which is still untitled from Warner Bros. Records.

Gold Circle has a first-look deal with Universal.
