Duo looking for laughter at Alphabet

ABC makes pilot commitment to Goldberg project

"Will & Grace" scribe Kirk Rudell and former "Friends" showrunner Shana Goldberg have set up new comedy projects at ABC via Warner Bros. TV.

Alphabet has made a pilot commitment to the Goldberg project, a half-hour about two sisters who were raised in vastly different environments. One was raised rich, while the other grew up poor.

It's Goldberg's first stab at development since ankling "Joey," the "Friends" spinoff she co-created (Daily Variety, May 13). She has an overall deal with WBTV.

As for Rudell, scribe is behind a half-hour about how friendships formed early in life change and become more complicated once people hit their 30s. Alphabet has ordered a script with a significant penalty attached.

In addition to "Will & Grace," Rudell has written for "Good Morning, Miami" and "Spin City"; he created the CBS pilot "Taste."
