"My network needs me! I'm there," Philbin said via a press release, noting the original "Life" was "always one of my favorite shows."
Fox TV Studios is producing the new version of "Life," which will air as a series of specials on the net (Daily Variety, Aug. 29). There's no word yet on when the first spec will air.
Philbin's last regular primetime gig for the Alphabet was as host of "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire." Ralph Edwards hosted the original incarnation of "Life," which ran for nine seasons during the 1950s.
ABC alternative topper Andrea Wong and Fox TV Studios prexy Angela Shapiro-Mathes announced Philbin's signing Wednesday. Wong worked with Philbin on "Millionaire," while Shapiro-Mathes is the former head of Buena Vista Prods., which produces Philbin's long-running ayem chatfest.
Mindy Moore, Fred Siegel, Jon Vein, Gary Edwards and Barbara Dunn-Leonard are exec producing the new "Life."
