The Animation Writers Caucus of the Writers Guild of America West has tapped animation writers Al Jean and Michael Reiss to receive the group's lifetime achievement award.

Kudos will be presented today at the caucus's annual reception at WGA West headquarters in Hollywood. WGA West president Patric Verrone will present the trophy.

"Everyone knows how much they've contributed to the quality of the animated series they've worked on," caucus chair Craig Miller said. "Less well known are their efforts and involvement in bettering conditions and circumstances for their fellow writers."

Jean and Reiss co-created animated series "The Critic."

Jean is exec producer-showrunner of "The Simpsons," where he's worked since the show launched on Fox in 1989. He's credited on more than 300 episodes, winning six Emmys and a Peabody Award. He also produced "The PJs" and wrote for "It's Garry Shandling's Show," "Alf" and "The Tonight Show With Johnny Carson."

Reiss has worked for 15 years on "The Simpsons," winning four Emmys and a Peabody, and created Showtime toon series "Queer Duck." He penned the screenplays for "The Man Who Knew Everything" and "Fat Man"; TV credits include "It's Garry Shandling's Show," "The PJs" and "The Tonight Show With Johnny Carson."
