Telemundo leads Telefutura in primetime 18-34 demo
No. 2 network Telemundo said primetime viewership in October among adults 18-49 averaged a 3.3 rating, or 663,000 people, up 10% compared to the same period a year ago, when it got a 3.0 rating, and up 6% over September, when it got a 3.1 rating.
Telemundo's share of Spanish-language broadcast viewership for the month was 23%, up from 20% in October 2004.
Among adults 18 to 34 during primetime, Telemundo said it averaged a 3.3 rating, equivalent to 411,000, its best performance in a year, up 18% compared to both October 2004 and September 2005, when it recorded a 2.8 rating.
Within this demo, Telemundo leads Univision's Telefutura network in primetime, which averaged a 1.4 rating in October 2004.
Telemundo claimed that primetime ratings for rival Univision's flagship net were flat for October compared to a year ago, at 9.6 for adults 18-49.
Despite Telemundo's gains, Univision continues to hold a commanding lead.
Univision has not released numbers for October, but in an earnings report on Nov. 2 the broadcaster said that viewership of its flagship net increased during the third-quarter ended September. Its 18-49 audience averaged 1.98 million viewers during primetime, up 19% over the third quarter of 2004.
Univision also claims that Telefutura remained the No. 2 Spanish network, behind its sister net, in every other daypart outside of primetime during July, August and September.
Telemundo's 8 p.m. novela "El Cuerpo del Deseo" made its best showing since its July 18 premiere, according to the net, with an average October rating of 4.3, or 879,000 adults 18-49, up 8% over September.
Ratings fell off then at 9 p.m. with the novela "Los Plateados," which ended its run Oct. 31 and averaged 2.9 rating point among adults 18-49 in its final weeks.
Telemundo has now launched sudser "Corazon Partido" in that timeslot.
