Walt Disney, sports net form new affil in Latin America

From Tuesday, Disney & ESPN Media Networks Latin America will handle carriage deals for the pan-regional ESPN, ESPN+, ESPN2 in Mexico and ESPN Brasil, plus the Disney Channel and Jetix.
The latter two had been handled by the HBO Latin America Group, in which Disney is an equity partner.
ESPN exec Guillermo Tabanera will handle the new entity as senior VP, reporting jointly to Russell Wolff, managing director of ESPN Intl., and to Buenos Aires-based Diego Lerner, prexy of Walt Disney Co. Latin America. Lerner is also general manager of Walt Disney TV, Disney Channel and Jetix Latin America.
Tabanera will continue as general manager for ESPN's businesses in Spanish-speaking countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, reporting to Wolff.
German Von Hartenstein, who was recently promoted to general manager of ESPN in Brazil, will oversee the Disney and ESPN Media Networks Group for Brazil and will report jointly to Wolff and Lerner. He will continue to report to Wolff on his ESPN responsibilities.
