Nick Movies has launched development of the yet-to-be-titled film, based on Lil' JJ's rise to stardom from a small town in Arkansas under the tutelage of his teacher-turned-manager Ken Bright.
Lil' JJ, who turns 15 Monday, was the grand prize winner of BET's comedy competition series "Coming to the Stage" and entered into a talent holding deal with Nickelodeon in January. He's the host of Nick's "Friday Night Slimetime" and appears in the upcoming Paramount/Nick feature "Yours, Mine and Ours."
Nick Films senior VP Julia Pistor will produce and Lil' JJ and Bright will exec produce the feature, to be released by Paramount. Nick Movies VP Damon Ross will oversee the project; Par co-president of production Alli Shearmur and senior VP Michelle Raimo will shepherd for the studio.
The TV pilot, a comedy dubbed "It Ain't Right," will center on a ninth-grader who has been waiting tables and stocking shelves at his family's Snooty Fox Diner amid a blitz of well-meaning adult admonitions.
Nick exec VP of development and original programming Marjorie Cohn is overseeing. Alison Taylor ("Lizzie McGuire"), who created the pilot, and Jerry Perzigian ("The Jeffersons," "The Golden Girls") are exec producers with Bright consulting.
