'Wedding' guys cash in

Helmer Dobkin will earn $7 mil payday

Warner Bros. Pictures has paid $1.25 million against $2 million for an untitled comedy pitch from "Wedding Crashers" helmer David Dobkin and his producing partner Andrew Panay. Dobkin will direct, with writing team Tim Rasmussen and Vince Di Meglio set to pen the screenplay.

Dobkin will draw a directing payday of $7 million against 7% of first-dollar gross.

Deal was inked Tuesday night, following a brisk bidding war between Warners and three other studios. Dobkin will produce with Panay through Tapestry Entertainment.

Story concerns three daughters who bring their boyfriends home -- an Arab, a Jew and an African-American -- to meet their hard-nosed Southern father during the holidays.

In addition to Panay and Dobkin, producers are Tapestry's Robert Levy and Peter Abrams. Warner Bros. Pictures' Greg Silverman will oversee the project for the studio.

Rasmussen and Di Meglio, who made their film debut with a rewrite of "Meet the Fockers," have written the comedy spec "Smother" for Jay Roach and Carsey-Werner to produce. Di Meglio has an eye to direct, while Diane Keaton is attached to star.

Tapestry also produced this summer's "Wedding Crashers" for New Line, which has grossed $207 million domestically and $68 million overseas.
